This part of my travels took me from the penguins and sea lions of Oamaru
across country very much like the US Midwest wishes it still looked, to the archeologic and geologic treasure that is Takiroa climbing
through country that might remind one of approaching Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming/Montana) from the east then descending past
Thunder Creek Falls into a primative rain forest missing nothing except a T Rex stumbling out from behind a giant fern to the incredible
beauty of the beach between Jackson Bay and Bruce Bay on the Haast Highway and then to Fox Gracier at Franz Josef.
I didn't make it up onto the glacier ... too late in the day ... nor did I make it to Fjordland National Park ... I had, after all, a
class waiting to teach at University of Canterbury in Christchurch. But that's what a return trip is for. |
